Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are great pets. They are obedient and so you are likely to have a great experience while training him. Here are some tips which you can follow to make your dog a pet worth admiring-

Start Training Right From Day One

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels need to be trained from the day they are brought. Tat him gently and be patient. However, don’t expect him to make spectacular progress in the initial phase. Just be patient with him. Rectify him in those areas where he is making a mistake. If you come across some drawbacks, you can correct them immediately. This is specifically true when you are training him. Ensure that he always relieves himself outdoors. Ensure that no mishaps happen.

Have A Consistent Approach to Training?

Be consistent and put in your best efforts. Even if your dog isn’t well train and is old, you can teach him some new tricks. All that you need to do is to repeat your instructions to him. Ensure that those instructions are brief and use single word commands. Often when dogs misbehave, it is because there is ambiguity in your command. Never take his misbehaviour at personal level. He might take this as a wrong signal. Control your emotions and reward him for good behaviour. It is a wise idea to take the advice of an experienced vet and follow them. You can also consider admitting him to an obedience class for some time. You can look for schools which offer such classes in your locality.

Positive Reinforcement

You might want to teach your pet some basic obedience training, like sit, stay, and lay down. Positive reinforcement is the fastest DIY method which you can opt for. Make some tiny morsels or treats for him. Hold it out to your pet and use it only when you instruct him to sit. While instructing him to ‘sit’, push down his lower back to guide him to sit.

Don’t force your pet to sit. Cavalier Kings are small and doesn’t have a strong bone structure. Once the dog sits, offer him food and praise him and repeat this step time and again. He will be able to relate the behaviour with earning a treat. Always ensure that you are consistent in your language. Opt for a word which can used as a command.

But once you decide to train a Spaniel, and when you feel frustrated, resist the urge to abandon the methods which we have discussed above. This dog breed is highly affectionate and is willing to please you in any way possible. You need to be determined to ensure successful training if not, consult with Pet Point.
